The first week in a new loft is a transition, not a deadline for a bird to prove itself. Travel, unfamiliar sounds, new people, different equipment, and a new flock can all affect behavior.
Prepare before arrival
Set up a secure quarantine or observation area according to the loft’s health protocol. Confirm ventilation, predator protection, perches, clean water, appropriate feed, and a way to observe the bird without constant handling. Keep new birds separate from the resident flock for the period and process advised by an avian veterinarian.
Keep the first routine predictable
Use the feed and care information provided by the seller, then make any necessary changes gradually and with sound guidance. Refresh water, observe eating and drinking, and keep the space clean. Limit unnecessary handling, noise, visitors, and repeated changes to the setup.
Record what you see
Note posture, breathing, movement, droppings, feather condition, water and feed use, and response to ordinary loft activity. One quiet day does not establish temperament, and one active moment does not prove the bird is ready for integration or training.
Do not rush release or training
A new bird should not be released or introduced into a trapping routine simply because a fixed number of days has passed. Follow the seller’s verified advice, your loft’s established settling process, local conditions, and appropriate health guidance. Relocation creates a real risk of loss.
Contact an avian veterinarian for concerning health signs. Do not use generic medications or treatments as a substitute for diagnosis.
Connect this post with the site’s introduction guide, calm handling article, shipping or pickup guide, and contact page. A successful first week is one in which the bird is secure, observed, and given time—not one in which every later outcome is already decided.
Prepare before the bird arrives
Confirm the seller's current pickup or shipping instructions, prepare a separate observation area, and review the live listing. For a specific bird, use the current shop and contact the loft.
